84th PERF MEETING Emerging Environmental Challenges and Risks
November 9-10th, 2011
The 84th PERF meeting was on November 9th and 10th, 2011 and hosted by ConocoPhillips at their Technology Center in Bartlesville, OK. The theme was "Emerging Environmental Challenges & Risks". Topics proposed for discussion included water management trends, the water/energy nexus, trace constituent management, water challenges in heavy oil operations, hydrofracturing, refinery waste water treatment, reuse and recycle, outfall regulatory trends, air quality and emissions challenges (VOCs, PM, inventory measurement and estimating), and emerging biofuels challenges, among others. A reception and dinner took place at the historic Frank Phillips Lodge at Woolaroc.

The ConocoPhillips Bartlesville Technical Center is located in Oklahoma’s Green country. Covering nearly 50 acres of land in Osage county, the BTC provides pilot plants and testing facilities for all ConocoPhillips operations worldwide.
This two days meeting was an opportunity to discuss new environmental challeges regarding upstream and downstream activities.
To conclude, there were 5 breakout discussions about the following topics:
-Upstream - produced water
-Downstream- waste water
-Downstream- Air and emissions
-Remediation, risk management
-research manager's face to face
PROPOSALS
As a result of the meeting, 3 projects were proposed:
2011-05 - Offshore marine model comparison (leader: ben.kampala@total.com)
2011-06 - Improve estimation methods of air emissions from cooling towers (leader: Dave.fashimpaur@bp.com)
2011-07 - Flaring best practices (leader: danny.kite@total.com)
